Looking for a julbord alternative in Malmö this year? Masala & More at Baltzarsgatan 12, a few minutes' walk from Malmö Central Station, hosts office Christmas parties and group dinners around an Indian spread instead of herring and ham: bone-in tandoori chicken, overnight-simmered dal makhni, butter chicken, lamb kadhai and breads from a real clay tandoor. Tables for groups are booked through our reservations page, and the same kitchen caters workplaces across Skåne for teams who would rather celebrate in their own office.

December in Malmö is wall-to-wall julbord. Many teams love it, but after a few years the same buffet starts to feel like a routine rather than a reward, and colleagues who are vegetarian, vegan or halal often go home half-fed. An Indian table solves both problems: the food is built for sharing, roughly half of our menu is vegetarian, many dishes can be made vegan on request, and every chicken and meat dish is halal.

Why an Indian spread works as a julbord alternative

A traditional julbord and an Indian family meal share the same logic: many dishes in the middle of the table, everyone helping themselves, bread and rice to tie it together. The difference is the cooking. Our curries start from a slow-cooked onion-tomato base with masalas we grind in-house, the dal makhni simmers overnight, and tandoori items are cooked in a clay tandoor running at about 480°C. A sharing table of four or five curries, a biryani, a plate of tandoori chicken and a basket of naan gives a group far more variety than a single plated main, and nobody has to agree on one dish.

It also suits mixed groups. Mild dishes such as Butter Chicken (169 kr), Butter Paneer (159 kr) and Dal Makhni (159 kr) sit next to spicier choices like Lamb Kadhai (189 kr), Rara Chicken Masala (169 kr) and Achari Lamb Curry (189 kr), so the heat is in the guest's hands, not the kitchen's.

A sample Christmas party menu for a group of ten

Most groups do best with a few shared starters, a mix of curries, one biryani and plenty of bread. For ten people, this is the shape of a table that works well in our dining room and keeps the cost per head predictable.

Starters: two Street Food Platters (129 kr each), a Vegetarian Pakora Platter (129 kr), Golgappe (69 kr) for the table and a plate of Samosa (39 kr). Mains: Butter Chicken (169 kr), Lamb Kadhai (189 kr), Dal Makhni (159 kr), Palak Paneer (159 kr) and Pindi Channa Masala (149 kr), with one Tandoori Chicken Biryani with bone (169 kr) and a whole Tandoori Chicken (149 kr) from the tandoor. Breads and sides: a mix of Garlic Naan (35 kr), Butter Naan (30 kr) and Cheese Naan (45 kr), plus Mix Raita (39 kr) and Plain Rice (39 kr). Order two or three of each main and about one and a half naan per person; the kitchen can adjust quantities once you tell us the headcount.

Smaller groups, or guests who prefer their own plate, can order the Vegetarian Thali (199 kr) or Non-Vegetarian Thali (219 kr), each a complete meal with curries, bread, rice and a gulab jamun. For a very informal evening, the 13-dish street food menu, from Dahi Puri (79 kr) to Bombay Pav Bhaji (89 kr, weekends only), makes a lively alternative to a sit-down dinner.

Booking a group table in December

Group tables are reserved through our reservations page or by phone on +46 70 304 76 42. Tell us the number of guests, the date and any dietary needs when you book; the kitchen prepares vegan versions of many dishes on request and we will flag allergens if you mention them in advance. Friday evenings run until 22:30 and Saturday until 22:30, which suits an after-work start. Sunday closes at 20:30 and Wednesday at 20:30, so an early sitting works better on those days. Our full opening hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 11:30–21:30, Wednesday 11:30–20:30, Friday 11:30–22:30, Saturday 12:00–22:30 and Sunday 12:00–20:30.

Colleagues travelling in from Lund are 20 minutes away by train, and Malmö Central Station is a short walk from the restaurant, so nobody needs to drive. The same applies to teams based in Copenhagen; the airport is about 35 minutes away by train and the Öresund trains stop at Malmö C.

Office Christmas catering across Skåne

If the party is in your own office, or the team is too large for the dining room, we cater across Skåne. The catering menu follows the restaurant's kitchen: curries built from scratch, biryani, tandoori breads, street food platters and sharing starters, all halal with vegetarian and vegan options. Send the date, headcount, delivery address and any dietary requirements through the form on our catering page or email info@masalaandmore.se, and we will come back with a menu and quote. December is a busy month, so the earlier you enquire, the more flexible we can be on dates.

For a sense of how catering menus are put together for different event sizes, see our guide to Indian catering in Malmö and Skåne.

Eating at home instead

Small teams and families who want the food without the booking can order pickup or delivery from our own website at order.masalaandmore.se. Delivery costs 89 kr with a 249 kr minimum order, and delivery is free on orders over 599 kr, which a group order of four or five curries and breads passes comfortably. A small service fee is added at checkout. Online ordering closes earlier than the restaurant, so order in good time on party evenings.
